The face of desperation

From the BBC, Bangladesh makes fresh aid plea.

It's been five days since cyclone Sidr hit the southern coast of Bangladesh. Tens of thousands are still at risk in its aftermath and up to ten thousand are estimated dead.

There was this tiny inset picture on the BBC front page in the South Asia news section that really caught my attention. The description behind it says "A man and his daughter in Bangladesh". The look of fear, anguish, helplessness on the man's face was gripping, and heartbreaking.

If you're the praying type, you might want to offer one up for the people of Bangladesh.

And while you do, consider giving a donation to one of the many organizations already on the ground and providing aid to the victims, like Oxfam America.

Sorry for the break in nonstop political talk, but every once and awhile you've just got to get up and deal with the world as a human being.
