Call to Action: Cheney Impeachment Hearings

Many of you have seen the recent flurry of diaries regarding WexlerWantsHearings.com.  The outpouring of support for Representatives Wexler, Gutierrez, and Baldwin call for impeachment hearings into VP Richard Cheney, has been nothing short of outstanding!  The original goal was 50,000 signatures.  As of this diary, we are quickly approaching the 160,000 milestone.  

I am, by turns, humbled, inspired and excited to finally hear the American people speaking out. Out of that mix, I am motivated to appeal to others who are looking for additional ways to bring this effort to a wider audience, who wish to share their successful strategies, who wish to contribute their letter writing/graphic abilities, and who are sick to death of watching Cheney run roughshod all over our Constitution.  

The day of accountability is swiftly approaching. Take the jump to see what you can do to contribute to it's rapid arrival.

As a result of discussion in some of those diaries (and an ensuing e-mail conversation), I have discovered a woman, Kossack victoria2dc, who is dedicated to providing a gathering place and brainstorming forum focused on the immediate commencement of those impeachment hearings.  

She has done copious research into the Constitutional basis for the hearings.  She is intent on providing a 'one-stop-shop' for folks who need help writing letters or finding contact information.  She is uploading files to the forum for members' use and is seeking contributions from folks who have good letter writing skills and/or good graphic editorials.  She has already started a list of contacts for Senators, Representatives, and a tool for locating a newspaper either in your area or nationally.

This is an invitation to all Kossacks to join with us in taking this Call to Action to the next level.  

Victoria2dc has just set up dailykos-ACTION_IMPEACH, a Yahoo group forum, as a meeting place for us.  She is adding to the site each day and we hope to see it grow quickly. We have a contact person in the Wexler impeachment movement and they are eager to work with us.  We are seeking contacts or suggestions on enlisting the help of Media Matters (for the media's refusal to print Wexler's Op-Ed), MoveOn.org (to put pressure on the Judiciary Committee to schedule hearings NOW!), or other organizations that will help us get the word out.

This is our opportunity to put our foot down, as Americans, and say: Enough is ENOUGH!

We can put the brakes on this insanity if we work together and focus on this aspect of our responsibility as citizens. Our voices are beginning to be heard in the most necessary Chambers.  Those voices are gaining in number, volume, and intensity.  Now is not the time for complacency or negativity.  I encourage you to shake off the remnants of the 'blamestorming*' of the Republicans and put your gifts to work!

(*Blamestorming - heard from a caller on the Ed Schultz radio program. I'm not sure where she got it or I'd give credit where it's due. It's so accurate, I had to use it....)
