I watched V for Vendetta tonight just before Countdown. I highly recommend it. Yep, it'll depress you for awhile, and it'll remind you an awfully lot of a few certain somebodies, but the ending is faboo. So, if you haven't seen it, SEE IT! It stars Natalie Portman (of The Professional & Star Wars prequals), John Hurt (of the first Alien movie & 1984), and the actor who found out the hard way that the woman he was in love with in The Crying Game was really...well...I don't want to give away too much; sorry the actor's name escapes me.
All right - enough movie talk - it's time for Countdown!
Last week I was out walking around the Back Bay-South End area of Boston and I passed one of my favorite people watching venues, the First Church of Christ, Scientist. The architecture and layout of the complex is amazing. The mother church is the large domed structure in the distance. Designed in the 1960s by the firm of renowned architect I.M. Pei, the 14-acre Christian Science Plaza along Huntington Ave houses the offices of the Christian Science Monitor and includes a reflecting pool and fountain that make it one of Boston's most visually recognizable sites and a popular tourist attraction. The elevated reflection pool makes the surrounding edifices appear floating in this sea of architectural tranquility. This reflecting pool is truly an engineering marvel. More under the rainbow...
This still needs work... I'm sure you recall the mock schedule that was being circulated in 2004. I made a few edits, omissions, updates... but I'm sure it can be improved.
Any contributions would be appreciated.
Two United States Senators implicated in extramarital sexual activity have named themselves as co-sponsors of S. J. RES. 43, dubbed the Marriage Protection Amendment. If ratified, the bill would amend the United States Constitution to state that marriage "shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman."
Section 2. Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any State, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman.’.
A monument to the enema, a procedure many people would rather not think about, has been unveiled at a spa in the southern Russian city of Zheleznovodsk. The bronze syringe bulb, which weighs 800 pounds and is held by three angels, was unveiled at the Mashuk-Akva Term spa, the spa's director said Thursday.
In a live interview on NewsChannel 7 Tuesday night – Craig, 62 - told Dee Sarton that he is in the process of writing a book on energy - that will also talk about his time in Congress – and the events of the past year.
"There will be a bit of what's happened in the last year, and the way it evolved," Craig said. "I think that's important for Idaho and those outside Idaho who are interested to know."
Hunter posited the following as the probable chapters:
Chapter 1: The various reasons why I am not gay.
Chapter 2: More reasons why I am not gay.
Chapter 3: A repetition of the previous reasons why I am not gay.
Chapter 4: Other people throughout history who were also not gay.
Chapter 5: My favorite Barbra Streisand songs.
Chapter 6: I am really, really not gay, damn it.
So have at it, creative Kossacks. What do you think Larry Craig will reveal? And while you're at it, blurb that book.
Like the rest of us, Barack Obama learned from the media that Hillary Clinton will announce the suspension of her campaign for the Democratic Party's nomination for President this Saturday. And while there is all sorts of gossip about what will happen next, for now the drama continues.
Just last week, Bill Clinton complained that he'd "never seen a candidate treated so disrespectfully just for running." Well look again, Bill. Because your wife just succeeded in performing a 10-point-perfect double-dis against Barack Obama. First she stiff-armed his historic claim to the party's nomination with her "victory" speech on Tuesday night. Then the next day she ignores the most basic courtesy of telling her party's nominee she is dropping out of the race. She even passed up the opportunity to do so in person at the AIPAC conference. What a class act!
Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig spoke at the dedication of a new Veterans Clinic in Idaho on May 30, 2008, as part of a Memorial Day presentation. The local paper, the Lewiston Morning Tribune, contains the following story where Senator Craig claims to continue to be the "ranking member on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee--see excerpt-
Now, as an Idahoan, a move like this makes absolutely zero sense to me. Never before have I seen someone so rejected by his base. Never before have I seen someone bring so much shame to all members of his state. And never before have I seen someone that doesn't get the point that it's time to call it quits. Wait, scratch that last one. (Hint: Rhymes with Rillary Flinton).
If I were the editor of a magazine and was looking to hire a copy editor, I would provide each applicant with a brief Hugh Hewitt column and ask him or her to find each of several hundred grammatical monstrosities located therein.
First, limit the question to what is known beyond reasonable doubt: Elliot Spitzer’s serial assignations with call girls and Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky combined with his perjury about that affair. Set aside Spitzer’s bullying prosecutions and his abuse of his office as governor. Try and forget the allegations against Bill Clinton from other women. Stick just to what is widely understood to be undeniable facts.
These facts is truly undeniable. What's up with these crazy Democrats and its affairs? Hugh Hewitt are correct on this one.
This will either be ignored in the US, outside of the NY media and the blogosphere, or it will be the poison pill that makes the sex side of the Spitzer story (as opposed to the questionable methods used to get him) suddenly a lot less tasty for our GOP/Media Complex friends.
Below is Eliot Spitzer's resignation today. The MSNBC coverage after his announcement points out that "he WAS a steam roller on Wall Street, and maybe Albany did NEED a steamroller" as well as the fact that he had summoned up 70% approval ratings among New Yorkers. What do you think--good riddance or tragedy? (I realize it can be both, feel free to share your fuller thoughts in the comments.)
In the past few years, there have been a lot of high-profile sex scandals involving powerful men who cheated on their wives, with the crime of adultery usually being exacerbated by other misconduct such as solicitation and prostitution (New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, Idaho Senator Larry Craig, and Louisiana Senator David Vitter) and abuse of power involving government resources and a subordinate (President Bill Clinton and New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey). (Two of the scandals had the additional element of same-sex extracurricular activities, which is a homophobic salacious detail, but not a crime.) But I have a question for the women who dutifully and miserably stand by their men at the inevitable press conferences that follow. Hillary, Silda, Dina, Suzanne and Wendy, would you advise your daughters to do the same thing?
